Who said “we’d never get back up?” – The Palace Theater shines in Historic Downtown Bryan

While passing through Historic Downtown Bryan recently, I saw a group of students from Texas A&M University volunteering alongside the Bryan Noon Lions Club (BNLC) to clean up the Palace Theater.  Everyone was raking up leaves and touching up the plant and flower beds in preparation for the many upcoming spring and summer activities the theater will soon be hosting.  Turns out the BNLC regularly maintains the Palace Theater as one of its’ many service projects.

It is great to see the outdoor theater in such wonderful condition and even better to see the community taking such loving care of the venue.

It wasn’t that long ago that Lyle Lovett filmed his iconic video for “This Old Porch” within the once dilapidated Palace Theater calling out those who said “We’d never get back up.”

Check out the video below featuring Lyle Lovett in what used to be an abandoned downtown district!

It is amazing to see how far Historic Downtown Bryan has come and it is exciting to see, not only the revitalized Palace Theater, but all the neat and wonderful places to eat, shop, and socialize.

Tell us about your favorite spot in Historic Downtown Bryan and what you like to do?

The top row of pictures below are from the music video and show the condition of the La Salle Hotel and Palace Theater at the time. The bottom images show the same locations in their current state; after being revitalized.
